1. About AfterLight

AfterLight is a research-driven project by Umbrella Research exploring memory-based digital reflection through AI. It provides a calm, grounded space for users to reflect on memories of a loved one through AI-generated responses. AfterLight is in early demo and pilot phase.

2. Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account or using AfterLight, you agree to these Terms & Conditions. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

3. What AfterLight Provides

AfterLight provides an AI-assisted reflection experience. You can share and organize memories, receive AI-generated reflective responses from Ben (an AI companion), and explore themes across your memories. All AI responses are generated by artificial intelligence and are clearly labeled as such.

4. What AfterLight Does NOT Provide

AfterLight is not therapy, counseling, or a substitute for professional mental health support. It is not a simulation of consciousness or a resurrection of deceased persons. It does not provide medical, psychological, or life advice. If you are in crisis, please contact a mental health professional or crisis helpline.

5. Your Responsibilities

You agree to:

• Provide accurate information when creating your account • Keep your login credentials secure • Use AfterLight in accordance with our Acceptable Use Policy • Not attempt to reverse-engineer, exploit, or abuse the service • Not share your account with others

6. User Content

You retain ownership of all memories and content you share with AfterLight. By using the service, you grant us a limited license to process your content solely for the purpose of providing the reflection experience. We do not sell, share, or use your content for any purpose other than operating the service.

7. AI-Generated Content

All responses from Ben are generated by artificial intelligence. They are not personal opinions, professional advice, or statements from a real person. AI responses may be inaccurate, incomplete, or inappropriate despite our guardrails. You should not rely on AI-generated content for important decisions.

8. Acceptable Use

Your use of AfterLight is subject to our Acceptable Use Policy. Violation of the Acceptable Use Policy may result in suspension or termination of your account.

9. Availability

AfterLight is an early-stage research project. We do not guarantee uptime, availability, or uninterrupted service. The service may be modified, suspended, or discontinued at any time without notice. We are not liable for any loss of data or service interruption.

10. Limitation of Liability

AfterLight is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. Umbrella Research is not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service. This includes but is not limited to emotional distress, data loss, or reliance on AI-generated content.

11. Termination

You may delete your account at any time from the Settings page. This permanently removes all your data. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms or our Acceptable Use Policy. We will make reasonable efforts to notify you before termination except in cases of serious violations.

12. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany and applicable European Union regulations, including the GDPR. Any disputes shall be resolved in the competent courts of Germany.
