AfterLight

A reflective, memory-grounded experience. Not a simulation. Not therapy. A quiet space for what matters.

How it works

AfterLight begins with a conversation. You describe a memory — a moment, a place, a feeling — and Ben, an AI reflection companion, helps you organize and reflect on what you’ve shared.

There is no setup process, no intake form, no required steps. You share what you want, when you want. Ben listens, reflects, and helps you see connections between the memories you’ve described.

Over time, your Memory Workspace grows — a structured, personal collection of memories that only you control. You can browse, group, and revisit them at any point.

What Ben does

Ben is an AI companion designed for one purpose: grounded reflection on memory. Ben does not give advice, interpret your emotions, or claim to know what a loved one would say.

Ben’s responses are generated by AI and clearly labeled as such. Every interaction is framed as reflection — never as therapy, never as conversation with a real person.

Ben adapts to the depth of engagement you choose. At the simplest level, Ben helps you describe and organize memories. At deeper levels, Ben surfaces themes and connections across what you’ve shared.

Introducing AfterLight

A brief overview of the AfterLight project — what it is, how it works, and why it exists.

Platform Capabilities

Three ways to preserve what matters.

From subtle photo-based animation to full 3D reconstruction, each capability is designed to handle memory with care.

01

Micro Animation

Emotional Fidelity Engine

Neural micro-animation uses LivePortrait retarget MLPs to add subtle, natural movement to a still photograph. Gentle blinks, soft head motion, and lip nuance — all within ethical boundaries.

  • Micro-expression synthesis
  • Per-frame BiSeNet face compositing
  • Customizable parameters via conversation with Ben
  • 100+ tunable parameters with preset system
02

3D Echo

Spatial Reconstruction Layer

DECA face reconstruction with FLAME2023 topology produces a textured 3D mesh from one photograph. CodeFormer AI refinement enhances facial detail before geometry extraction.

  • Single-image 3D reconstruction
  • 5,023 vertices / 9,976 faces per mesh
  • 1024×1024 PBR texture with UV projection
  • Interactive Three.js GLB viewer
03

Research Avatar

Consent-Native Identity Layer

SMPL-X body fitting via PIXIE combined with 3D Gaussian Splatting produces anatomically accurate, high-fidelity 3D avatars from 8–20 photographs or a short rotation video.

  • PIXIE SMPL-X fitting (10,475-vertex body mesh)
  • 3D Gaussian Splatting (up to 20K iterations)
  • Adaptive loss scheduling with foreground masking
  • PSNR 24–25 dB on benchmark validation
The right technology disappears. You notice the reflection, not the system.

Umbrella Research

Entering a Private Space

AfterLight is a personal reflection environment. When you enter, you interact with Ben — an AI companion grounded in memory.

Ben is not a real person. Responses are generated, not personal. This is not therapy or counseling.
