1. What Cookies Are
Cookies are small text files stored on your device by your web browser. They are widely used to make websites work efficiently and to provide information to website operators.
2. Cookies We Use
AfterLight uses the following cookies and local storage items:
Essential (always active, no consent required):
• afterlight_session — Session cookie for authentication. HTTP-only, Secure flag, expires after 30 days. Strictly necessary under the ePrivacy Directive (Article 5(3)).
Analytics (only set if you consent):
• _ga — Google Analytics cookie used to distinguish users. Expires after 2 years. Only set if you explicitly consent to analytics. • _ga_<MEASUREMENT_ID> — Google Analytics cookie used to maintain session state. Expires after 2 years. Only set if you explicitly consent to analytics.
Local storage:
• afterlight_cookie_consent — Stores your cookie preferences (essential and analytics choices, with timestamp). This is not a cookie but a localStorage item used to remember your consent decision.
3. What We Do NOT Use
AfterLight does not use:
• Advertising cookies • Tracking cookies • Third-party cookies (beyond consent-gated analytics) • Social media cookies • Performance or preference cookies
Analytics cookies (Google Analytics GA4) are only set if you explicitly consent. No analytics data is collected without your permission.
4. Managing Your Consent
When you first visit AfterLight, you will see a cookie consent banner where you can choose to accept all cookies or only essential cookies. You can also manage your preferences in detail.
To change your preferences at any time:
• Click "Cookie preferences" in the website footer • Toggle analytics on or off and save your choice
If you withdraw consent for analytics cookies, existing GA4 cookies will expire naturally (up to 2 years) or you can clear them manually through your browser settings. No new analytics data will be collected after withdrawal.
Your consent preference is stored in localStorage under the key afterlight_cookie_consent. You can remove this item through your browser's developer tools to reset your choice.
5. Managing Cookies in Your Browser
You can also manage cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to block or delete cookies. However, if you block the AfterLight session cookie, you will not be able to log in to the application.
For instructions on managing cookies in your browser, consult your browser's help documentation.
6. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page indicates when it was last revised. If we add new categories of cookies, we will update this policy and ensure consent is obtained before setting any new non-essential cookies.
